A Little Wild, a Little Southern: The Inspiration Behind My Art

Close up of the Stargazer Lily in Bloom

There’s something about a flower that makes you stop and look a little longer.

It might be the curve of a petal, the way the light changes its color, or how something so delicate can have such a bold presence. Those details are part of what draws me to botanical painting—and keeps me coming back to my canvas.

My Southern Botanical artwork brings together flowers, wildlife, and the colors that inspire me. Lilies, hydrangeas, palmettos, and birds give me so much to explore: sweeping shapes, unexpected color combinations, and little details that are easy to miss at first glance.

I love giving those things room to be noticed.

The Beauty and the Challenge

A finished painting holds a lot of decisions you may never see. There are sketches, layers, adjustments, and moments when I have to step away before I can figure out what comes next.

Sometimes a flower needs more depth. Sometimes an animal’s proportions take another look. Sometimes the best thing I can do is let the paint dry and return with fresh eyes.

That process has taught me patience. It has also made finishing a painting especially meaningful. Each piece represents time spent observing, experimenting, and learning when to keep working—and when to put the brush down.

My website includes original paintings and a separate collection of art print designs. The prints currently offer different artwork from my originals, so each collection has something of its own to explore.
